Women’s Health

With acupuncture, I help women balance their hormones and feel their best as they experience the transition of Peri-menopause and Menopause.

Acupuncture can provide non-invasive treatments for:

  • Dysmenorrhea (painful periods and cramping)

  • Irregular periods

  • Heavy bleeding or spotting

  • PMS

  • Mood changes

  • Fibroids and cysts

  • Insomnia

  • Headaches and migraines

  • Bloating and fatigue

  • Hormonal acne

  • Night sweats and hot flashes

A natural biological process that occurs in all women, menopause signifies yet another stage in the complexity of women's cycles of growth. In Chinese Medicine, we call it the "second spring"; how lovely is that? Western medicine treats various symptoms of menopause, but fails to address the transition as a holistic process. Acupuncture recognizes that these symptoms are indications of imbalances in the body and focuses on adjusting and correcting them.

Peri-menopause, meaning “around menopause”, affects many women in the years leading up to menopause. It’s a transitional phase of life when periods are still occurring, but ovarian function declines and estrogen levels begin to drop. Most women begin to experience perimenopause in their 30’s and 40’s. Perimenopause can start 8-10 years before menopause.

Some women experience only mild symptoms during peri-menopause, while others notice significant physical, emotional and psychological changes as their body begins to feel the effects of estrogen withdrawal. Periods often become irregular and menstrual cycles change. Symptoms such as hot flashes and night sweats can begin years before the onset of menopause. Mood changes, sleep disturbances, and brain fog are common, as are fatigue, weight gain, hair loss, and vaginal dryness. Acupuncture can provide significant relief for some of the most problematic symptoms of peri-menopause, without the potential side effects of pharmaceutical drugs.

Acupuncture helps with a host of other hormonal issues including: insomnia; changes to the skin, such as acne and dryness; anxiety; mood changes; PMS; and breast tenderness.

This transition is a natural part of life and it doesn’t have to be miserable! I’ve come to have a special interest in this area because, throughout my years of clinical experience, I’ve seen how dramatically acupuncture can help you reclaim your sense of well-being and health. Think of this time as an opportunity to create a deeper connection with your own body, assess what’s really important in life, and prepare you for your next great adventure.
